I'm adding a boom vang and a boomkicker this winter to my 87 hunter 23. Has anyone had any experience with Garhauer marine hardware.Their prices on their boomvangs are a lot less than the big brand names. Like most people I like to save money, but don't want to buy low qualty either. Thanks Wally

I'm a satisfied customer

Wally, I bought a Garhauer ridgid vang for my H280 at Strictly Sail Chicago. Actually, I ordered it at the show, and got it about 4 weeks later. It's a beautiful piece of equipment, and the folks at Garhauer were great to work with. Jim Mowrey H280 Talisman Keyesport, IL

JayMow, what do you think of the operation of . .

the vang? We have a 280 as well and I've been thinking about either the Garhauer or a Boom Kicker. A good friend just installed a Boom Kicker on his H30 and seems to like it very well.

Ron Baer - your block

Ron - I never could find an adjustable block with cam cleat that had a sharp enough angle to work from the cockpit. I assume you do what I had in mind: just run the line loose over the companionway cover and let it dangle down into the cockpit? You can set and release it? What branch and model is your block? ...RickM...

Lewmar Synchro 50mm

I used the Lewmar 50MM synchro fiddle block w/becket and cam. It has 3 angles to set the cam position. It is not perfect, but it is close enough to allow me to use it when I solo. The line lays across the deck/hatch, I slide the hatch cover all the way closed, so the line dangles to the cockpit. I got it at West Marine, as the had the best price, around $46.00. There are other brands that would have more adjustment, but the cost was 2 to 3 times more. Their part # is 29925039. Here is Lewmars web page with the block: http://en.lewmar.com/products/index.aspx?lang=1&page_id=3&sub1=19&sub2=74&sub3=190&sub4=&sub5=&template_id=6&part_number=29925039
