My 33 foot Hunter does not have a boom vang. Is this common or am I missing something?

I'm not sure what they left the factory with but

mine came with your standard block and tackle arrangement. But it looked like it might have been added by one of the previous owners. Bear in mind that I'm the 4th owner. There are certainly enough options on the market now if you want to add one. To tell you the truth the only time I use mine is if I've got crew and we're racing. Otherwise it sits loose and in heavy winds I'll rig it as a cunningham or downhall with the main reefed.

Boom Vang is important

My H33 has the type vang that Steve described. It is a very important piece of equipment because it controls the shape of the sail, and with that, speed. You don't need to be a racer to add a boom vang. You might also consider a rigid vang instead of the block and tackle type. Garhauer makes a nice solid vang for a very decent price.
