Boom Vang

I recently purchased a used Hunter 18.5 which does not have a boom vang. I was wondering if this model ever had one? I have noticed the boom trying to rise while running downwind. Any information in this regard would be appreciated. Tim

Almost any boat can use a boom vang. You can buy a pre-made vang or make your own.

I purchased a small Schaefer vang for my boat and I love it. The 18.5 really needs one bad because there is no backstay. It helps keep the mast from going forward on a run. I think it is cheaper than trying to get all the parts and assembling your own. They are available online. By the way, has anyone figured out a way to put a backstay on this boat?
