I am about to part with some money to spice up my hunter. I am going to purchase boom vang and a knotmeter/depth sounder. I am sure someone out there has learned something about these two items on a 85 hunter 23 that can help in my decision making/installation. Would love to hear your thoughts.

A small input....

I recommend installing a mast bail instead of using the mast foot casting. It's not difficult to install and is stronger. If you're serious, plan on 8:1 or better for racing, 4:1 for crusing. Knot meters are a pain to keep working (my opinion). I find a GPS works more reliably and isn't subject to all the problems the little paddle wheel has. Greg

Jerrit, The vang will help alot, but I disagree

on the knot meter vs GPS unless the GPS is mounted where you can see it in a flash without having to manually do something. I have a Standard "MD150 Multi Display" on my H26. It gives speed/depth/temp and has log functions. About $270. I sail in fresh water and have not had any problems with this instrument. It is very nice to be able to make a change is my sail or sails and see the difference right now, displayed right in front of me. No hassle, and being a newbe to sailing it has helped me learn alot about sail trim. Ray S/V Speedy
