Did the stock/original O'day 20s come with a boom vang, Cunningham, or outhaul?

I don't know for the 20, but an outhaul is pretty much a given. It was probably just a cheek block to horn cleat. I updated mine to a 2:1 for when it's a bit windier, to make it easier to pull on AND still cleat to the horn cleat. (With 1:1 I was only ever able to do one of those actions at a time when breezy.) My 192 doesn't have a Cunningham because it has a sliding gooseneck. Still allows me to tighten the luff and move the point of max draft forward for breezier conditions. Note that draft stripes on the main, and a new-ish/non-blown out main help with this. I've heard of boats that don't have a vang, and I wonder how they go downwind without some disastrous consequences of lifting booms. My advise would be to rig all three if you haven't got them. And if you have or rig a vang, also rig an easy to adjust topping lift. This will allow you to set boom height and thus leech tension/main twist between the TL and vang, and then you can "vang sheet" the main such that the mainsheet will only control angle of attack without affecting leech tension/twist.

Yes, our vang-less 20 would suffer an unshipped boom with lift.

O'Day 20 Boom Vang was optional most if not all years. The page below is the DS Boom Vang, but the one for the 20 was really the same. Outhaul was standard all years, but as Brian pointed out, it was just a line running from the clew of the sail through an eye at the boom end and forward to a cleat on the side of the boom, Block Action outhaul was optional (see pic below). The 20 had a sliding gooseneck so would have had a standard Downhaul to pull mast end of boom vertically down along mast slot, tied to a cleat on trailing edge of mast about 12" or so below boom. I have posted pics are from the 22 Manual, but truthfully, O'DAY used the same diagrams for most models, just changed slightly to match the specific model.
