boom vang

Hi to all,Can anyone tell me where on the boom to mount the attachment point for a boom vang? I just bought the vang kit from CD, but it came with no instruction sheet. I'm guessing the attachment point (the "hound"?) goes on the boom about 3'-4' aft of the mast, but that's only a guess. All opinions welcomed. Thanks.Chuck K.

My experience with boom vangs is that the vang should be at about a 45 degree angle. This means that if you come down the mast 3 feet, you should go out on the boom for 3 feet. I also like the pull at the lower end so that I am pulling toward the stern and not pulling forward toward the mast. I am planning to mount a boom vang on my newly purchased 22 and this is the way that I have the vang mounted on my Precision 16. I put the vang together out of individually purchased parts from West Marine and saved about $45 over purchasing one already built as a kit.Bob
