Has anyone figured out a way to silence the boom vang? Mine has developed a bad squeak - I can minimize it by tightening the main sheet and the toping lift but some still remains. The noise is caused by the spring inside the vang.

Are you sure it is the spring in the vang.We had a similar noise in our boom area (B 321 classic mast) Tracked it down to the goose neck fitting + vang attachment points on boom and mast base.
At goose neck we used a few drops of McLube oil (couple of applications) and other joints used McLube sail kote.As a side note also used sail kote on the main sail slugs main raises and douses much easier

There is no doubt that the source is the spring inside the vang. I have the same situation on my 323. When I had the vang off the boat this spring, I tried to correct the problem by spraying McLube on the fully extended inner cylinder hoping that some of it would find its way ,eventually, to the spring . it helped a little but certainly did not cure the squeak. I wonder if there was some sort of spacer or sleeve in there when it was new, and that it finally wore out.

So I finally got around to taking the boom vang apart. I found the inside of the aluminum tube corroded from the interaction of aluminum and steel spring. Also found a few aluminum chunks that had logged between the seal and tube. Cleaned everything out applied lithium grease and reassembled.

No noise!
