Boom Vang

I recently purchased an '83 DS II that is missing some rigging. There is an attachment point for a boom vang on the boom, but I'm not sure about the optimal set-up: hardware, block, line and mast attachment point. Does anyone have suggestions or, ideally, a picture of a properly rigged boom vang for a DS II?

The boom vang probably has metal ball swaged to a cable which fits into the attachment point on your boom. From the picture, I can see what appears to be an eye strap at the bottom front portion of the mast for the second attachment.
Myself, I prefer an eye strap under my boom instead that ball type thingy because it enables you to make up your own boom vang by using to fiddle blocks, with a cam cleat attached to one of the blocks, plus some braid line. The blocks should have the snaps on them. Here's some pics of my set up. The eye straps under my boom fit in a track and are riveted in place. The swivel from side to side. I have a utility plate under my mast tabernacle with holes in it for the boom vang attachment. As you can see, the boom vang is pretty simple. I put a longer braid line on this boom vang and I use it to to pull my mast up. So the vang set up this way can serve more than just one purpose. Where I live, we have at least two marine consignment stores that have various size blocks for cheap money that can be used to make up a vang pretty cheap.

I have picture of my boom vang on my 1979 DS II it is the one originally supplied by the factory (I bought the vang from Rudy in 1996). I will include the DWYER diagram and a pic from a 1986 brochure showing the attechment at the mast. I have made one change to mine, I turned the fiddle block (bottom block with 2 sheaves and jam cleat) upside down and instead of using the built in jam cleat I added a cam cleat to the top of the cuddy (using same bolts as the upper block for the CB lines). This makes adjusting the vang much easier. I may eventually find a way to cut off the built in jam cleat, but for now the vang works fine. I have now added more pics of my boom vang. (again, note that I have installed the fiddle-block upside down and do not use the built-in jam cleat)
