Where can I find pics of a boom vang and a mainsheet travleler for a 1994 Hunter 26? I am very new to this, and I am missing one or the other, and I cannot tell which is which?
John, the H26's don't have a traveler but do have a boom vang. If you are not sure which is which, the vang is the device that runs diagonally from the base of the mast to an area about 3 feet out on the boom. It helps to keep the boom level and flatten the main sail. A traveler is a device that allows adjustment for the main sheet attachment point to be adjusted to port or starboard. This helps to fine tune the angle of the mail sail to the wind. These can be 2-3 foot long and since the main sheet attaches to the center of the cockpit floor travelers weren't used. Good luck and keep asking questions. This is a great forum to learn from. Don't forget to research the archives on this site.
Thanks Jeff, turns out, the block and tackle assembly I have is the mainsheet. I guess the boom vang is missing (thanks PO). Next, I am going to the sail shop to make another boom vang.
You can buy vangs off the internet or at West marine or make your own. Some H26/260 owners have installed a traveller at the base of the entry to the cabin but that just places the mainsheet in the way of crew entering and exiting the cabin.
