MY 27FT CATALINA, 1977 VINTAGE WAS NEVER EQUIPED WITH A BOOM VANG. WHAT IS THE BEST LOCATION FOR THE MOUNTING POINTS ON A NEW INSTALLATION? THE CENTER LINE OF THE BOOM IS 39 INCHES OF THE DECK AND THE BOOM LENGTH IS 11FEET AND THE SAIL FOOT IS 10'6". I MADE A SPECIAL FITTING THAT WILL ATTACH THE BOOM VANG 3 INCHES ABOVE THE DECK WHICH ALLOW CLEARENCE FOR THE SLIDING HATCH. BARRY

boom vang attachment

My vang is attached to the boom about two feet from the mast. It works just fine from there. You don't need to be half way back on the boom for the attachment. Just get the right hardware to attach it to the boom from BUS or West or someplace else. Good luck.
