I am interested in adding a boom vang on my Catalina 25. Any idea of what angle the vang should be set and is a 4:1 good? Also going to use bales, anyone suggest otherwise?
From what I understand, a boom vang should be at about a 50° angle away from the mast, maybe a bit more. A 4:1 fiddle block rig should be fine for a C-25. There are also simple 5:1 rigs. The Harken catalog has some good designs. You can use a boom bail or possibly a mast hound on the boom.
