Novice problem....I :dance:went sailing today on Beaver Lake.It was 67 degrees and 5-10 knts wind...beautiful day!
I:doh: could have had a lot more time on the water but.....the boom vang connects to the pin used to secure mast to base plate.Impossible..lol!!
The boom vang shackle is next to impossible to slide pin through while pining the mast hinge to base plate.Therer is no easy way I could find.......?
I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problem .If so how did they solve this problem......I spent :cussing:almost half a n hour trying until I just said well .... its not that windy ,so go without it.
I dont think that is a good idea .I:naughty: dont like leaving port with question about equipment failure or lack of in time of need.
Pls let me hear from you guys ..txs in advance..mark;)<><

I don't quite understand your problem. I have the same boat, so I know the setup very well. There is a little strap/tab piece with a hole in it that the mast base pin goes through when pinning the mast foot to the mast base. The result is easy to work with. The little tab will even swivel up and down when in place. Is this little piece missing?

Mark, if you have the problem I think you have, use a second shackle to attach through a hole in the mast base plate, and then attach your vang shackle through the other shackle that is attached to the base plate. BrianW

Hey Rick...yes the piece attached to BV shackel that well swing up an down is the piece I cant get the pin for anchoring mast to base plate through..?
I am thinking that using one or two of the empty holes in the base plate, to bolt down a home made plate with a ring to hook BV shackel to......iys just very very hard to get the pin used fro stepping mast to go through the BV hole.

Hey Brian...I think were on the same page. There are about six holes on the base plate. Can I use one of those aft holes to put a shackle to Boom Vang?....does it make any difference which one considering pull of boom?

I was thinking of maybe using a chain bolted to the two aft holes in base plate. Then I could hook my BV to one of the center holes in chain? What do you think...txs mark<><

Ah, so looking at the parts list that Rick Webb posted, you can't get part 1316 to pass through part 561? I thought you couldn't get the shackel to attach to part 561.

Maybe part 561 is bent or corroded. Mine's a tight fit as I recall (the mast hasn't been down for a couple of years). I wonder if some lubrication would work? Liquid dish soap, or a silicon or other dry lube spray (SailKote, etc)?

OK, It is Clear Now

Perhaps the pin is bent.

One of the other tabs that the pin runs through may be bent. An extra long drill bit run through the whole assembly should clear up the whole thing.
