Boom Topping lift..

I would like to change out my boom topping lift at this time.
Currently there is thin wire rope (1/8 in dia ?) spliced to normal line at the bottom.

What are people using now for this?

If I go to modern synthetic on this, will I need to still get a larger line spliced on?

   My Vega came with a Boomkicker.  Two fiberglass rods that support the boom from below.  No topping lift at all.  I don't know how much weight it will support but stowing the main etc. it supports the sail boom and me leaning over all. Never have to think about it. I stow the main halyard to the boom end to prevent slatting and support the tarp that covers the dodger.   $232 at Defender Marine in Connecticut.Robert Lord  #2923

My wire/rope topping lift was replaced with just 3/8 halyard rope. The pulley on the mast head is somewhat small but it seems to work good. I bought the boat in this configuration. I do like the boom kickers. My buddy has one and im sure he will try to talk me into one, but i dont think i need to add another project to my 100 line to-do list at the moment. Want to get in the water. lol. Sent from my iPhone

i probably don't have topping lift. The sheet from boom and to the mast head through the block and cleated on the mast or brought back to the cockpit if all your lines being controlled there, is that sound right?
