I installed hatch covers this year and the hatch and port covers have made a huge difference in interior temperature.
Thanks Ralph. I do have insulated covers on my hatches. Makes it dark inside, but much cooler. I have curtains on the side lights and I set up some old sail cloth to cover my hatches door (that have clear inserts in them).

But the ceiling and hull get hot in the sun. I think Dave’s sunshade is suspended up off the deck to provide shade and air under it… but with my lazy jacks, not sure how I could drape it over the boom.

I hope you got out and found a little wind this summer. I am on 60+ sailing days this summer…but hauling out in 2 weeks to get ready to head to Florida

60+ days ? ? ? ? Oh that's right, you have wind over there. Over here when it gets hot, the wind leaves for other parts unknown and we experience the doldrums. Can't even imagine what it must have been like for sailors to get stuck in the doldrums for extended periods back in the good ol' days.

One half hour out there, a BC Ferry tries to hit you when you can't get out of the way with only your sails and I'm headed back to the dock. Go pull weeds. Maybe even smoke some.

This has been a pretty mild but consistent summer for sailing in Southern Lake Michigan. Winds have generally been around 10kts and waves 1-2ft nearly every day.
