What your are trying to accomplish. I use a cheap, hardware store tarp, 7x10, I think, with grommets at the seams. I use very small bungees to attach to the lifelines. Workable solution for under ten bucks. If you want to buy a fancy sunbrella boom tent, go to the chandlery on this website - they will have dimensions on your boat for a tailer-made boom tent. They will also relieve you of several hundred dollars. Good luck.

Inexpensive alternative
I've used an inexpensive painter's drop cloth, available at any hardware store. Made of light, cream-colored sturdy cloth material, with the installation of a few grommets and some bungees, you're all set. Obviously this won't give you protection in the rain, but it makes an excellent sun shade. It will look great. For the 240, a 6x8 size works perfectly. Total cost < $10. You can upgrade to something more costly if you're not happy. Good luck. -Ed

During the summer, in Central Florida, it rains cats and dogs. I need some rain protection so at least I can have my companionway partially opened. I tried the painters tarp but the rain leaks through them and the inexpensive plastic tarps are like a microwave when in direct sunlight. The boom tent awnings sold on Ebay are made of a fabric named Triton and not Sunbrella. Anyone has experience with this fabric. Also they are limited to a few colors and they don't have anything that remotely matches the rest of my canvas. What size awnings are you using on the 240's?

Didn't realize you're in Hades down there - the best way to figure out size is to just run a tape measure lifeline-to-lifeline over the boom. If you want to use ribs to hold up a tarp put a rib over the boom and and measure over it, as above. This would be a great first do-it-yourself project and I wouldn't blame you for spending a little extra time and $ to do it right. Could always buy bulk, light colored sunbrella and use that.... Just built one.
I picked up a some ripstop nylon, and SWMBO stitched the sides together. We picked up a replacement tent pole kit from the local sporting goods store. Voila a custom awning for $30, plus a little labor.
