boom rigging

Can anyone jot down a few drawings of how my boom is suppose to be rigged to hold my sail back & to hold the boom up when the sail is down? I'm enclosing a pic of it .( the line & the velcro strap were to hold a 2x3 extension on for my winter tarp). There is a line attached to the end of the boom & a cast alumn end with 2 holes in it.

I don't know about "supposed to be" because there are many ways to skin a cat.

You could rig a topping lift - there are different ways to do that also.
Ours runs like:

BOOM END->MASTHEAD CHEEK BLOCK->MAST FOOT BLOCK->COACH ROOF TURNING BLOCK->COCKPIT CAM CLEAT. We use 1/4" line.

On our boat we have also have a "pigtail" on the back-stay to hold the boom up when no sail is raised as well as the topping lift.

Both have their time and place.

My 25 has a pin at the masthead. I put it through an eye spliced 1/4" line and the line goes to a block on the end of the boom then forward a few inches to a horn cleat. I release when raising the sail and take up the slack before dropping the sail. Put a stopper knot in the line so it does not pull through the cleat.
