I am really aiming this ? to Steve Dion. How do you have your H31 rigged with regards to the boom? There are 3 lines that come out of the front(mast side) of the boom. what do you use these for? Do you have pictures? Do you have a jiffy reefing system in place? I have learned alot form your articles on the H31. They have saved me a heck of alot of time. Thanks

Hi Mike:

Mike: Are you a jarhead? Just wondering, being you are in Camp Pendelton. OK, the port and the starboard lines are for the reef points. One being for the first reef and the other for the deep reef. The middle line is for the tension on foot of the sail (not sure of the terminology). I can try to take pictures if this is not clear. If I can answer any other questions feel free to ask. I'll be down in So. Cal. in August, so maybe we can hook up if you are available. steve@sdcsoftware.com

Outhaul!!!

Middle line is your outhaul. I set up my 28.5 with the starboard line as 1st reef and the port side line as 2nd reef as the reef tacks on either side of the main correspond to that configuration.

Clew outhaul

Mike; the line is the clew outhaul used for tensioning the foot of the main for sail shape. Flatter for heavier winds and fuller for lighter winds. Mac Lindsay,1984 H31
