Boom Position on C27 mast

I recently purchased a 1984 C27 tall rig. The boom is on a goose neck that is bolted to the mast right in the sail entry slot. This means that I can't take off the main from the mast unless I unbolt and remove the goose neck. Also, the lowest part of the main's luff is loose even when the main halyard is all the way at the top of the mast. This seems funny to me. Seems like the gooseneck should be sitting lower. Any ideas? Thanks, Michael

C27 Boom position

This seems strange to me, too. I have an 84 C27 (standard rig), and the boom is fixed to the mast a few inches below the entry slot for the mainsail luff. This allows a full hoist of the main, and good luff tension (adjusted via halyard tension). Check to see if you are getting a full hoist--is the mainsail headboard reaching the top of the mast? If not, you may have a problem there. If it is, your boom may simply be too high. Also, are you sure you have the correct size mainsail for the rig? Maybe the sail luff is too long... Perhaps some owners of tall rig models can shed light on this for you. Good luck. Randy
