I have written for advice before and always get a helpful response from fellow owners. I recently crewed on an Ensign 23 ft and afterwards the skipper used a boom crutch to elevate the boom vang. She then placed the boat cover over the mast so that the rain would run off easily. I also put a cover on my boat when moored off of Madison in about 12 ft of water. But the cover stretchs over the cockpit under the boom vang which is kept up by using the main sail rope. Has anybody developed or know were to purchase a mast or boom crutch which would also serve to elevate the cover when the boat is moored.

Boom / mast crutch - 146 - try a boom kicker

I have looked into a boom kicker - might do the same job for you, and also be helpful while rigging/derigging. Haven't baought it yet, but plan to this season. Got very helpful assistance from http://www.boomkicker.com/Bk_index.htm. Here is what they wrote me: "the 312 Boomkicker recommended for the Hunter 14.6 is priced at $82 including ground shipping in the US, so your covered. The 312 works like the larger Boomkickers using bendy fiberglass spring rods for the support. The unique feature of the 312 is a sling attached to the upper ends of the rods which supports the boom. Larger models attach directly to the boom. The sling is positioned along the boom by a line to an eyestrap installed just under the gooseneck. Since all attaching parts use the luff groove of the mast, drilling and tapping is avoided. Another advantage of the sling is it does not restrict boom rotation and makes rigging and de-rigging a snap."
