Hunter 240 -
I'm looking at a 1994 H23.5 and the boom appears to be only about 5 feet above the cockpit sole. Seems like this could be problem for a 6'5" sailor. It could also make using a bimini awkward. Can anyone please tell me if the boom on the H240 sits any higher, and If so, how much? Thank you.

It's not as bad as you think

But on pretty much every small boat, the boom is low. You duck/be sitting under it when you tack/gybe, you have a tiller anyway, kinda tricky to stand while steering. While at the dock, raise the topping lift up an extra foot or so, and buy a bimini that you can't sail with, or buy the low bimini like me, and sit under it.

What is the 240 boom height?

This is good advice. But can anyone please tell me how high the 240 boom sits above the cockpit sole so I can compare this information relative to the 23.5 boom height? Thank you.

Photos?

You could look at some photos, but the difference between boats is very small. The solution is to get a new mainsail with the foot cut at an upward-sweeping angle...you loose sail, but the boom can be angled upwards, giving you headroom. The 23 is the opposite, the sail is angled downwards giving more sail, and less headroom under the boom. Not that it matters, because you cant stand under it anyway! (I have a 23) 240 http://album.sailboatowners.com/detail?photo=1832 23.5 http://album.sailboatowners.com/detail?photo=2371 23 http://album.sailboatowners.com/detail?photo=1381 PS: Phil, this photo ( http://album.sailboatowners.com/detail?photo=1867 ) is a 23, in the 23.5 section. Scandal!!
