Looking at buying a Catalina 30 standard rig. The one I am looking at seems to have only about 6'2" cockpit to bottom of boom clearance. Due to sun in South Florida, need to have large bimini and wonder if boom clearance is normally an issue on standard rig. Tall rigs seem to have more headroom available. Can't locate any specifications that include boom height or comments on it as a problem. Photos of 30's seem to have varying boom heights. Comments please.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Not sure

I do know that I have a MKII tall rig and I have plenty of boom clearance. My bimini is pretty tall. I am 5'11" and I have about 6 inches above my head to the top of the bimini.

I am 6'2" or was and I can assure you

the boom on a Catalina 30 is NOT above that. It is more likely 5'10" or 11", possibly 6". Why just two days ago I bonked my head on it while climbing out of the salon. Now it is a joke as I tell the boat owner, who is vertically challenged at 5'3" "Watch out for the boom".
