Does anyone know if the 1995 model Catalina 320 mast extrusion is strong enough to handle a boom furler for the mainsail? Schafer says no, not strong enough for their boomfurler, LeisureFurl apparently says yes.. has anyone retrofitted a LeisureFurl Mainsail / boom to a 320?...any ideas? thanks JR Castro

Strong enough in what way?

Not that we're comparing apples to apples here, but I have an '85 C27 with a boom furler. What are your concerns? The wall thinckness of the mast will not support or might deform under the weight of the main and boom while furled? For what its worth, I have a Stoboom boom furler (hate it but that's another topic) and the mast side of the goose neck is way more beefed up and to the best of my knowledge, this Stoboom was been installed by the original owner and I am the 4th owner since new. Its held up pretty well so far.

C320 BOOM FURLING

Greg, the message I got from Schafer was perhaps the mast might not be strong enough for their boom furler because as a double spreader rig, the mast wall thickness was less than they desired, I guess they thought the mast might fold up somewhere.....from weight or stress......thanks for your input, just trying to get anyone else's thoughts on this Joe
