Hi,
Does anyone have a source for the single cam cleats on either side of the boom (H37C 1980 Kenyon boom)? My rigger is checking with Rig-Rite but they are slow to respond.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim:

Don't have a source recommendation. But just an alternative idea if you encounter sourcing problems for the replacements.

I am pretty sure that the 1980 36 and the 37 had the same boom design. If you are referring to the cam cleats that used to be in spot of the attached picture, then the attached picture illustrates what I did .... actually I removed my jam cleats because I didn't like them. (Sorry - I no longer have them around.) The reef lines run down from the goose neck to blocks at the mast base, then up to standard cleats on the mast. This set up offers two advantages. 1) When shaking out a reef, the lines run better into the the boom without getting caught up on the cleats and 2) when setting a reef, I can pull up on the line (from the blocks at the mast base) to get more tension on the sails reef point clews. This arrangement has been working fine for me.

Anyway just an idea.

Thanks to all. RigRite does have a replacement kit with manual jam cleats instead of spring cams. Jim B.

You might also check Dwyer Aluminum Mast Co., Schaefer and Clamcleat for less-expensive alternatives. It is not any nightmare to drill new holes or even to relocate something like this by a few inches. Further, any extra holes in the boom, if you are really worried, can be 'filled' by tapping and installing an aluminum fastener-- any kind-- and breaking it off to be filed smooth.

I admire Rig-Rite for their devotion to maintaining old spars and equipment; but I don't like their have-you-over-a-barrel prices.
