I've been thinking about one of those boom brakes on my H376 (like Dutchman) that use friction to slow the boom on tacks and jibes. Does any one use one and your opinion?? Thanks, Bob F. "Andiamo"

I have a Dutchman brake to be installed

I bought it 6 years ago. Every year I plan to install it, but not yet. The problem is that by the time I get the time to install it, I want to be sailing and not working on improvements. The installation is not perfectly straight-forward. It can be installed in a couple of different methods and figuring out which is the best for you is not easy. A mistake means holes are drilled and hardware is mounted. I really want to believe that it is worth the effort, but so far I can't seem to find the time.

Bob, a skipper friend installed his between...

the vang and the boom as one unit. He seems to like it and it works great. So, the vang connects to one end of the brake and the brake connects to the boom where the vang was connected. Tery
