Recess

I recently brought my boat home and have been working on it but I have been sick this weekend and having a resperator on while sanding with my sinus draining was not a good idea. So I worked on the cockpit and cabin. When I purchased this boat I knew I was getting a very nice mainsail and two genoas. So I was doing some cleaning in the cabin and the PO had a custom cabinet built neat the V berth. As the side of the boat angles away from the cabinet I wondered if anything was stashed behind it. I got my flashlight and squeezed over the top of the cabinet and was very pleased to find a storm sail that looks like it has never been used. Gotta love those little bonus things no matter how small the find is.

That's mine...

I lent it to the PO. So, give it back. ;)

Good find, Dave!

That kind of thing can really make your day.

Today I was talking with a neighbor who has a friend who owns a marine salvage yard, the neighbor has a backyard full of stuff from scrapped boats, my buddy needs a heat exchanger, my wife mentioned that I was looking for a spinnaker pole, the neighbor asks what it looks like, goes into the back yard and comes back with a 9' forespar pole, in almost new condition, when I asked him how much, he said "free, take me sailing sometime." ;D Tim

I agree

I was hunting through my recently acquired boat and found streamers of pennant sails for dressing the boat as well as a riding sail. I was on board yesterday and the boat was really hunting on the mooring. I found an article onboard, left by the previous owner, on riding sails showing my how to deploy it. I did so and it worked like a charm. I then was able to be more comfortable while I fixed the primary reason why she was sailing around so much on the mooring. The genoa wouldn't furl all the way, even with the drum nearly 100% full (they recommend not more than 7/8 full). I read the manual and it said to use 7/16 line with the core removed. There was 1/2 on the spool with the core intact...kind of explains why I was having trouble getting enough line on the drum to roll up the genoa.
