My 86 Hunter 31' came with Bomar hatches. The forward hatch has supports on each side. They consist of an angled arm bolted to the fixed hatch frame, and a rod that slides in the arm. The rod is bolted to the moveable hatch frame. The two arms are different angles. Starboard is a larger angle and works fine. The port arm has the sharper angle that catches the rod on its way down. Possible the PO changed the port arm and got the wrong one. Is there a source other than Bomar for used arms? The arms appear to be too brittle to bend.

Without pictures I can only guess, but I'm going to bet that they are the same hatches as the ones in my H30. http://www.pompanette.com/pompweb.n...p_Body/1.2C74?OpenElement&FieldElemFormat=gif
If the hatches aren't the same, The riser arms probably are. If not they're similar.
Do both of the riser arms look the same? are the mounting points the same distance from the edge? Without more knowledge of the product that you have it's difficult to troubleshoot.
The riser arms are probably cast, and won't bent without breaking, so I wouldn't recommend trying. As for a source of used parts, you might find one in a place like http://www.sailorman.com
There must be some place closer to you that would have what you need.

The Bomars on my '85 have only one support on the starboard side. There are cast bosses for a second support but the bosses aren't drilled for the support pivot. The single support has worked fine.

I think the PO must have replaced the support. My understanding is that these parts are no longer available. Your best bet is going to be a salvage yard if possible.

No, Dave, they are different. After struggling and lubricating, it finally occurred to me that the port side was just not going to work and I took off the arm. That's when I realized it had a substantially sharper bend than the starboard side. I have been using the hatch with just the starboard support [the cabin hatch only as one], but figured there must be 2 for a reason. I will get a picture of the proper support and try all the used suppliers I can find. Will also post a picture of the improper one which will be offered free to anyone in need.

Could you let me know if you find any used ones. I broke mine this summer. It only has one on the starboard side.
Thanks

Well, I got an answer from Bomar after sending them the attached picture. I quote, "The arm you have is bent. We suggest replacing the arm with part number P100-20 (right) or P100-21 (left) for $82.00 each." Now I definately don't want to seem ungrateful because responding to my request in the first place was very good of them. I wrote back, "Wow, Tracy! If I correctly read between the lines, you are saying that Bomar never made an arm like the "bent" one. I had assumed the hatch was accidentally assembled by Hunter using an arm designed for a smaller or larger Bomar hatch. I could be wrong, but the Bomar arms are wonderfully heavy duty and look far too brittle to bend. Given the strength of the arm compared to the rod mounting screw and the frame itself, I can't imagine how one could bend the arm before tearing out the mounting screw or bending that hatch frame. It's a mystery. Still, I do appreciate your consideration and analysis."
Am I crazy, or could this arm actually be bent??

I'm going through the same thing on my '85 40. I need hinges and the plastic things that the dogs latch onto. Although, Bomar told me that parts were no longer available and I need to replace them. I'm trying to get the school metal-working class to cast me some new hinges, I just haven't had time to arrange it.

I suggest that you remove one of the good hinges and take it to a machine shop. If they can make a couple, have them make a dozen and sell them on this site. This is a common problem. I can sell one of them for you.
