Bolts for motor mount

I'm finally back in business after getting a kick up rudder from Idasailer.

I'm in the process of changing my motor mount for the Tohatsu 6hp motor I have now.

I bought a new Garelick mount, got a custom steel plate to mount to the wedge.
I'm replacing old 10" SS 5/16" bolts to go through the wedge to the transom and have having difficulty finding some.

I'm going to use a 1/2" piece of marine plastic instead of marine plywood in the back of the transom and wanted to switch out the old bolts while working on this project.

Any suggestion on a vendor for 12" or 14" SS bolts?

Long Bolts

Man, those are long bolts?? My only suggestion is the go to SS all thread. Jamestown Distributors carries it in 1/2 inch and the 316 nuts and washers for it.

can you reuse the old ones?

stainless steel bolts shouldn't wear out and should be ok as long as they are not bent. are they long enough that you could just reuse them? would save some $$ as hardware is extremely expensive now.

ps. we have a value home center near us and they seem to have the best selection of hardware around. better than lowes and home depot.

bolt depot

I bought them from bolt depot. I think it costs about $30 for the bolts, nuts and washers.

The old bolts were a little bent and I thought I would do the job right the first time...so I don't have to mess with it again.

I did nothing to the wedge...all I am doing is pulling the old piece of teak motor mount off, replacing it with a new steel mount that will fit the wider Garelick mount.

Buy some 5/16" rod

Bolts that long can be quite expensive and, as you've found, hard to find. Why not buy some 316 rod (unthreaded) and either cut & thread it yourself or have it done at a machine shop. I'd double nut each end if clearance isn't an issue, using nylock 316 stainless nuts on the outer ends & ordinary 316 nuts inside the nylocks.

Bolts

I got Replacment bolts of this size from Jamestown Distributors. Had to buy a twelve but the price was not bad.

Stainless Steel Bolts

Jamestown Distrubuters should have these bolts. You can order them on the web. They are locate on Jamestown Island in RI. They have all kinds of marine fasteners.
