Easy one

The sail described attaches to your mast using a bolt rope running the length of the luff (the forward edge of the sail when attached and the boom is running aft).I believe a bolt rope main would have a better shape than hank on...meaning it is good for racing. I know someone out there will know more about this and explain where I am wrong...please do and then both newbee and I will know! Add Sail Slugs

Most sails are manufactured with bolt ropes. The rope fits into the groove on the mast, and usually requires a second person to feed the sail while the other pulls the halyard. When you lower the mainsail, it will fall back out of the groove. You want to install sail slugs onto the bolt rope. Buy the nylon with stainless bail type because they are more durable. You will also need to buy plastic shackles to attach the sail slugs. You should also buy a sail track stop, to insert into the mast groove after you raise the mainsail. The track stop will keep the mainsail in the mast when you lower it. I suggest that you visit a marina, and look at the boats there that have mainsails flaked onto the boom. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SiteSearch?keyword=sail%20slugs&advanced=YES&searchDeptId=2 http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?keyword=108332&resultCt=1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=1757&y=4&x=14
