Bolt Rope Main

My boat a 22 Catalina has a boalt rope on the foot of the main. Can I use that main as a loose footed main with out modification?

but don't expect to get improved performance, in fact it will probably decrease.

Loose Foot Main

Shane, Your sail should work fine if you drop the bolt rope out of the boom. It won't be as ideal as if you had a loft convert the foot. The main thing is that the clew needs to be held to the boom, either by a clew slug, strap, or a clew car/track arrangement. Thanks,Bill C.Doyle Sails
