the boatpix helicopter was flying at the recent whitebread. haven't bought any yet as they're quite expensive but pretty cool shots. not sure if anyone else has tried and how was the quality of the print?

Quality of the prints were nice, but as you mentioned they were expensive. They send all of the shots taken, and you choose the one or ones that you like

I'd pay for aerial photographs of me sailing. Last time I checked, helicopter time isn't too cheap, either. If you like the pictures, buy them.

they emailed some to choose; kind of cool from this angle (of course there are no other boats around as we were so far out in the lead - ha)

I agree with Kermit, helicopters are not cheap and thus pics from a helicopter are not cheap. But it would have a be a VERY steep price before I passed it up. Those examples look awesome.

My wife purchased me a nice large one for a b'day present 2 years ago. Definitely pricey, definitely good quality, and definitely worth it if you want a nice memento. I'd spring for one occasionally since how often are you going to get a nice aerial shot.

Boatpix is extremely protective of ownership of their photos and distribution unless you have paid the $ for a specific purpose. Personally, I'd wonder about posting the photos on this site, even as watermarked versions ... just sayin', just me.

I didn't see the pictures. Where are they? I'd love to see them.

KAP....Kite asisted photography is a very inexpensive alternative. Here's the best link of a Berkley student who also single handed to Hawaii on a Dana 24 in the Transpac and spent a few hrs with a small video camera on a simple delta kite. Inspired, a few yrs ago I built a simple rig and took a few crude shots too. Pics are easier than videos but both are very possible with todays small cameras and a free-handed line spool. Google KAP to enter a whole new hobby.

Just a thought.

For great pics of this event go to pbsa.net and follow the link for photos. I particularly like RJ DeBella's work. I'm sure his won't cost what boatpics will.
Also lisail.com's Bridget Walker has many photos which are usually very good. They may also be available on northforkmemories.com.
And, watch Windcheck magazine upcoming issues for my article re Whitebread XVIII.

We are quite lucky to have a very tall bridge 3/4 mile above our marina. Any boat with a mast height of 55 feet or less can pass under.
This begs the question of "Where's the pictures?". After 10 years and 5 boats I still haven't done that.
