I have heard good thing about both of the two waxs. I think I will need a good cleaner before waxing. Has anyone used 3m boat cleaner?

Thanks for the replys
Rick

You need to remove and condition the gel coat before you worry about wax.

Take a look at Island Girl or buffing out the surface before you start on the wax process. MaineSail and some others have had extensive discussions on conditioning the gelcoat.

I have found the Collinite cleaner used before Collinite Fleet wax works well

If you need to restore the gelcoat, use Buff Magic by Shurhold, and then to make it shine, use Pro Polish by Shurhold. Used them both last month and can't believe how good my boat came out. Highly recommended products!

Rick, have a read through this post..... Waxing by Maine Sail

Depending on how dull the gel coat is, will deterimine how far back you need to go, i.e. compounding, Finesse It II, then wax or at least Finesse It II then wax.

I'll second the instructions Maine Sail posts... I did everything but the swirl remover step this weekend on my boat, washed with on and off, then started with 1000 grit, 1500 grit (no place I found carried 2k grit paper), then buffed with 3M (the good makita makes ALL the difference), then finnessed, and waxed with collinite 885, even though the sun had just dropped below the horizon when I finished, people were comming around and stopping to talk and ask how I did it... they had seen it wet sanded the day before and I'm sure they wondered what kind of horrible thing I was doing to the boat (it does look pretty bad after wet sanding), I gave the link to the instructions to quite a few people this weekend, they all agree with the results. You can't do much better!
