I'm driving from Delaware to Richmond each Monday moring and returning on Fridays. I take route 301 to avoid Baltimore and Washington traffic but mostly so I can cross the Bay bridge and look for sail boats. About 2 or 3 weeks ago, right after Hurricane Isabelle, I noticed a lot of boat showing upo behind a fence on the south/east side of 301 about 5 to 10 miles north of the Potomac bridge. Does anyone know what it is? I thought at first it was a salvage yard but then saw a Boat US sign on the fence. Looks like some nice boats inside the fence....... Just curious but always looking for my next boat. Hayden

Hurricane

Maybe it's where BoatUS insurance is putting vessels which were totalled by the hurricane. Ron Mehringer h26 Hydro-Therapy

salvage

I think it's one of the two sites Boat US established for a salvage boat auction (the other being near Fredicksburg, Va.) from Isabel. See the Boat US web page. They have al ogn listing of what was being sold ... I think the auctions were last weekend. Presumably the boats were severely damaged to go thorugh this salvage process ...

Rick: I think you are right. Notice the address on this website. I wonder how many "totalled" vessels (for insurance purposes) are really totalled? Steve

Salvage is right

I drive by it on my way to boat at Cobb Island. Some of them have holes in the hull where they were beating the pilings. One had its keel missing. Sad looking mess. *cry Jim S/V Java

in the eye of the beholder

a totaled boat or car for that matter in insurance terms simply means that it cost more to repair than the item is worth. my C25 was "totaled" this year by our insurance company. she broke one of her dock lines and got cross ways in the slip. she roughed up her sides and ruined the little Johnson 8hp. the estimate to repaint the boat was $7800 and another $1800 for the Johnson. the book value of the boat was around $10,000. the insurance company gave us a choice of taking the 10 or take $8500 and keep the boat. for a do it yourselfer the $8500 and keep the boat would have been a great deal but, we were ready to move up to a bigger boat so we took the 10k. if I had the time I would have took the $8500 and kept the boat. I would rather sail than paint so there you have it!
