Who in the Southeast has had their boat transported in the last year? Can anyone give me an idea of the costs?

I moved a 356

I moved a 356 from Nashville,Tn to Pasadena,Md. The costs were as follows: 850.00 to put in lift, take mast down and load on truck. Then about 100 to buy duct tape and plastic.I got old carpet free to wrap the mast and furling to protect it from road dirt and etc. 2,125.00 to move the boat via truck 2,200 to remove from truck, block, paint, remast and put in water. 500 to have rig professionally tuned. also,I had to fly up to meet boat on arrival, pay the trucker and fly home. Then,I paid to fly back when boat was to be put in water.and then fly home. Then get in moving truck and move. I will never do it again. If I had to do it again,I would sell it. I I buy a boat,I have to be able to get her there on her own bottom.I will sail her myself with a couple of friends if its a coastal hop. Good luck

Thoughts on your experience Paul .. .

You didn't say when you did this but the actual decomm. and transportation doesn't sound much different than what I'm estimating for an H280 hauled 250 miles. It looks like a big expenses to you were the flights and bottom job. Did you think the transporter did a good job?

I did it 10/05

I was extremely happy with the Transport company. They were very professional and did everything they promised.I was not happy with the services I got from my marina at this end.I ended up having to pay extra for tuning the rig because they did a crappy job when they remasted.Seems like Marinas in this area feel like they have the customer by the shorts. They sure dont understand about Customer Service. But thats for another day. As far as the flights,I was living 850 miles away and couldnt drive to meet the truck.I did have to meet to pay because payment is due on delivery and I wanted to make sure that my boat arrived as she left.Small price to pay for peace of mind. Preparation of the mast and furling and the boat are the most important.I did everything I could myself to keep costs down, make sure the boat was ready on time, and to make sure everything arrived in good shape.I also tagged all my mast wiring at both ends and tagged all the rigging before I disassembled it from the mast with a diagram for reassembly. If there is anything else, let me know.Good luck with the move.

I can't believe some of these prices!!

Some of the prices for things in different parts of the country are just outragous. The cost to raise or lower the mast at my marina (or either of the two next to it) is $100. Tuning is not included. A haulout with powerwash and winter storage is under $500 and it includes re-launch in the spring.

Paul I, your prices aren't much different . .

than what I see and is just a small rraction of relocation costs. What hurts is when you start decommissioning a boat and making ready to travel at 60 mph down the road. Mast down and wrapped, sails removed and bagged, spreaders off, rigging removed & stowed, all misc. exterior gear removed and stowed, hatches secured, all interior gear secured . . all of this added to the expense of the hauling itself and the recommissioning at the other end. It can easily add 10 - 15% to the true expense of buying a nice boat that happens to not be in your immediate area.
