I bought a boat in Missouri and need to transport it to Ottawa in Ontario (Canada). I am looking for any recommendations for transport companies that can do it (and won't charge both arms and legs).

I tried uShip.com, but I am afraid I was scammed (after 3 weeks of dealing with them, the boat is still where it was originally).

Any recommendations and suggestions would help

Try Andrews out of Niagara on the Lake. 800-231- 0931. They moved me from Annapolis to St. Catharines at a good price.

We used Overland Navigation, moved our boat from Iowa to Missouri. Larry Bender is the guy to talk to. Very satisfied.

You are probably looking at $3-4/mile plus loading/unloading (possibly) time.

Be sure that you have insurance on the transportation as well as the moving company.

If you can find a company that has a scheduled move from the opposite direction you can sometimes save some money.

I purchased mine in the US (Ohio) as well. Be prepared to pay a $40 fee and the GST tax. The remainder of the tax I paid at Service Ont. when I registered the boat and trailer. (For some reason I think it's different now though.)
You must have separate receipts for the boat and trailer if it has a trailer.
Good luck and welcome to the site.

The best in the midwest. Rooke Sails in Memphis. Chris Rooke is the owner. All he does is sailboats to 18000 lbs. 901-744-8500. Chris is a super nice guy with vast knowlege of anything to do with sail boats.

Try calling Brannon @ Diversity-Transport they have done my boat from Ohio to FMB FL numerous times and they are very fast and reliable plus they have good rates compared to everyone I called.

Have you spoken with Grand Mariner Yacht Service or Spurgeon Yachts? They are both located on Stockton. Both would be able to haul a 27' boat without a problem.

The distance and going into Canada may be an issue for them thought.

The boat is at Grand Mariner Yacht. Very good service.
Apparently, many carriers don't want to cross the boarder.

Andrews crosses the border all the time. They are USDOT and can go anywhere. I am not associated with them and they were a pleasure to deal with.

Eventually, I went with Ken Cox (KC, MO). The boat arrived without major troubles last week. I can highly recommend this guy.

Btw. the best decision in this whole exercise was to hire a customs broker. Apparently, the border crossing took all of 15 min. A good investment of $250.

Depending on when you want it in Ontario, you could transport to the bottom of lake Erie and sail it through the Welland canal into lake Ontario. I did that with my brothers boat. It was a nice trip. It saved some money. You'll have to do the customs clearance (which is no big deal) at first port of entry on the Canadian side.
