The Good News

Slipless - remember that wait times are ususally half of what they say as to not get your hopes up. Get on Long Beach because when the construction is done in late 2006 -early 2007- they are going to start calling. They have three and maybe four full fingers free now for construction moves. Also - Al Larsons is the closest Marina to Any part of Catalina - 3 hour crossings - 30 minutes by car saves you how much from MDR? I would guess 4 hours - maybe 3 hours +-

Ensenada is the best bet

I just returned from Ensenada. Apparently with the revision of the "off shore delivery" statute, there are slips available in the Coral and Cruise Port marinas. Both marinas are well maintained and have 24 hour security. Not sure of the cost, but for the Newport to Ensenada race, I wrote out a check for $224 for two nights with a 43' LOA Hunter 410. They jack up the cost during this race. I wouldn't procrastinate too long on this. Sow one up and then you can shop for better deals. You might also consider, I think, Chula Vista and National City. Both are very close to the border. Anything in Newport Beach would be a short term idea at best. John Richard s/v Jack's Place

Its a drive from LA, but

Try Chula Vista in San Diego. They still advertise in the Log. The previous post lists Hotel Coral in Ensenada. I spent 100 days there in the 90 day "yacht club" couple years ago, OK but not great. Power goes off all the time. A lot of surge too.

Marina del Rey slips

Hello, I, too, am soon to be homeless. Why the county of Los Angeles won't set up something temporary during construction of docks, I don't know but I just wanted to say that so far, I'm finding that even the crappy slips have waiting lists. I'm seriously thinking of cutting 'er loose. I haven't even asked what the prices are!
