I haven't done much research on a J 30, but it fits that niche I'm currently exploring.My brother sails a J/30 out of Juneau and enjoys it quite a bit despite the light air they are stuck with during much of the season. A J/29 is a good bit lighter and might perform better in light air, but you can't stand up down below the way you can in the J/30.
