For what its worth, I ran across a sale at my local k mart that bears consideration. They have 2 styles of Tom McCann brand boat shoes on sale this weekend for 20.00 They look like Sperrys but fit (me) much better and the quality is as good or better. My last pair of Sperrys were 65.00 on sale and after 3 weeks of boating are trashed. Take a look if you're in one of their stores.

p.s. I spent 15 yrs. selling shoes to Dept. stores beforw I became a cheap a$$ airline pilot!~

My take on TMs is that their sole is to hard to provide adequate traction on a wet salty deck. Their soles are designed for looks and durability rather than performance. They do make excellent walking shoes and for $20 are a steal.

My favorites are Timberland's deck shoes, about $59.00. I have got about 17 years out of two consecutive pairs of these. The comparable Sperrys I had in between them lasted about 3 years; and the stitching up the inside of the back tended to rip open my ankles when I wore them barefoot (did they really not consider that?).
