Boat Projects and Home Projects

With sailing opportunities more limited this time of year, the mate has taken advantage of my free time and assigned a few projects to be completed around the house. As I was working on a couple of them over the weekend, I was feeling resentful about having to do them and couldn't wait to be done. I also remarked to myself how different I would feel if I were working on projects on the boat. Then I'm just happy to be on the boat tinkering, generally don't much care how long it takes, and want the results to be pretty close to perfect. So what's the difference. I own the house. I own the boat. I want the house to look nice. Things obviously need to work around the house. But it ain't the same! Any thoughts out there? How about you liveaboards? Does that change the way you look at projects? Maybe it's as simple as: Cuz it's the boat, stupid!

Guess I am not alone.

Always grumbling about the leaves, the grass, the plumbing, carrying salt to the softener, and sweeping the garage. But I am taking a half-day off in about twenty minutes because it's going to be above 40 degrees at the boat. Can't wait to get there. What is that?!

Strange phenomenon

They joys of apartment living. I don't have to worry about maintenance at all. Still, it's just as difficult for me to actually clean the place. There are about a thousand other things I'd rather be doing than cleaning my apartment. I guess this phenomenon explains why I like to varnish. That & all the compliments! :) LaDonna

Dec.4, 2000 Dear Gary, A house is a millstone, an endless obligation, a rut, an extended grave. A boat is a doorway to freedom and paradise, and although a boat is a do it yourself project that never ends, at least if you don't like the neighbors it's easy to move. Look at the bright side, your milllstone is in one of the best and most beautiful sailing grounds in North America! Brian Pickton @ BeneteauOwners.net Aboard the Legend, Rodney Bay, St. Lucia

You think you have bad...

The list of house chores written by my wife has gotten so long on the refrigerator door that we had to buy another one.

So you had to buy another one! A house, a refrigerator or another boat?
