Here's an interesting one. A fresh water pump for a Universal M-18 ( which I think is the same pump as many of the other Universal diesel engines) is $99.75 if you buy it from the seller's site that references Universal Marine or $59.85 if you buy it from the SAME site under the tab for Kubota engines. Same manufacturer's part number (KBC01003WP) 66.66% more expensive when related to a marine part. When I called them the sales guy looked it up and said yes the one they sell under the Kubota tab is the same as the one sold under the Universal tab and it will work. He was kind of chuckling when he said it. I thought it was funny too but in a different way. Oh well, at least it's a lot less than getting it from an actual boat part retailer.

Found the same thing with secondary fuel filter for a Yanmar. Local auto supply store had a cross reference to a known national brand at about half the cost. When I pulled the OEM filter out of the engine, it was exactly the same as the replacement (both made in China of course).
