Capricious was on the boat when we got it. Still kicking the idea around of renaming it but after a few months of ownership, it seems quite apropos.

Beneteau 393 Cruising Baja
Calypseaux

Named by PO.

French play on the spelling of Calypso. She waylaid Ulysses on his voyage. Held him for 5 yeArs and wanted to marry him.. But he left to return to Penelope and kill her suitors.

I did consider changing it. Calliope after one of the muses was a contender, I am hopeless at making a decision on a name so I guess she will stay Calypseaux

I use to be a Beneteau dealer while at Smith Moutain Lake, VA. My wife decided to buy a Beneteau 321 and helped to commission it. She never knew what it took to put a new sailboat together.

We transported the boat down the road sometimes thru the back country to Annapolis on Thursday night and got to the marina in time for Breakfast. Mast went up and boat into the water. Rest of the commissioning took time. She bemoaned how many folks were enjoying their boats on Friday evening when we returned home. That was a trip from Heck.

She named our boat "Sweetness from Above" for our cocker spaniel and me. Later it was for the dog only as I was in the dog house. Sweetness from Above was a good name for our cocker spaniel as I was in the dog house all the time.

My (our) 30 Catalina came with the name La Bonne Vie from the first of now 4 owners. The orginal owners surname was Bonnevie according to the paperwork that came with the boat. So that was a no brainer. Liking that, and not wanting to change a name after 30 years, it stays. Possibles thought of prior to the non decision were Linda Marie (the admirals name) and Mar-Lin, a combination of our first names (Mark & Lin).

My H23 was named "Raven" by the original owner and the name was kept by the PO before me. I kept it because it was short, unique and there was a cool silhouette of a raven in flight on the transom.

The two PO's for the Wanderer before me used the name "Porpoise", but for some reason people have trouble hearing me say it on the VHF. "Pelican" is easier to say and hear and everyone knows what it is. Like a pelican, the Wanderer waddles when motoring at slow speed around the dock, but under sail she becomes as purposeful and graceful as a pelican soaring (which they do surprisingly well).

Buzios.
It is a very nice place outside Rio de Janeiro/Brazil, from where I am from, and it is also a sea shell.

I transitioned from one "mid-life adventure" to another with this boat. My three last toys were fast cars, (427 AC Cobra, C6 Corvette Z06, and a RT10 Viper I sold to get the boat).

I tell people I have gone from 140 mph to 6 1/2 knots!

So when the boat I bought came with the name Andante, (musical term meaning Slow and Steady), it was a no-brainer. Perfect match!

PS: I love life at 6 1/2 knots! :)

Yot. Provisional English meaning to unite closely. The boat, the water, the wind, family and friends. Kinda says it all.

We named our C22 "Boomerang". When we first looked at it, it was in an airplane hanger, and there was a boomerang in the cockpit floor. My oldest daughter had a dream the night before about a boat with a boomerang in it so the name stuck. Now I can't for the life of me remember if she told us about the dream before or after we looked at the boat!

Minke, because she's a big girl in a small package, and Minke whales travel a long way regularly, which we like to do. Also, I like short, sweet names that are distinctive sounding.

I used to keep the previous name thinking it was bad luck and then I changed one that I just hated, and instead had very good luck for a dozen years! So I think someone got that wrong in translation--you should change the name to get good luck!

San Juan 7.7 Bayfield WI
'Restauration'... a) since two owners of Norwegian descent share the boat, it was the name of the first immigrant ship from Norway to the US, and.. b) since the owners are teachers, it's what we have to do in the summer to get ready for the next school year, and.. c) it's what we did to a neglected but sound San Juan 7.7 to get it back into cruising and racing condition...

It came documented with the boat. The duck graphic and name are painted on the port and starboard sides of the boat and would be very difficult to remove. Deffinetly not worth the errort for just a name change.

We seem to name our boats from our experiences.....

First Boat - McGregor 26X - "Mast Confusion" ... we had no clew...LOL
Second Boat - Hunter 33 - "Little Nauti" (we thought it was going to be our last)
Third Boat - Hunter 41 - "Wild Oats" cause that is what we are sowing.... still have no clew! LOL

Naming boats is a difficult process for the Admiral and I!
