A year a go , I bought a used boat , This boat had two owners , .
The last owner( previous me) change the name of the boat .
Sense I bought the boat I have the worst of luck with it.Braking things, storms,
leaks, etc.
I'am not very superstitious but , I remember reading a thread regarding name change and the protocol to follow is any body out there remember ,or can direct me to the thread .
I 'am afraid that the protocol wasn't follow, and I'am paying for it.

Well, I guess I'm really in trouble cause I've changed my boats name three times since I bought it! Of course I never really got around to actually putting the name on the boat either. Maybe I'm safe.

"Breaking things, leaks" — at some point, thorough maintenance needs to be done on any mechanical device. "Bad weather" can be predicted by close monitoring of the weather forecasts. When the mechanical parts are in proper condition, the weather is less of a problem.

It is easier to blame an unseen entity than to put the effort (and expense) into doing maintenance.

The naming ceremonies can be quite enjoyable. But remembering the WW2 song "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition" or "Put your trust in God, my boys, and keep your powder dry!" from the 1800s, do the maintenance and pay attention to the weather reports.

There is good reason for superstition of renamed vessels. Think about why someone would rename a boat...just like finding a used car with an all new interior.

For example there was the S/S Eastland which capsized and sank on its side in Chicago. It was renamed the Wilmette and sold to the Navy and commissioned USS Wilmette. It completed honorable service in the Navy, but was not able to be sold off after naval service and was stricken and scrapped in 1947.

the bad luck is spozedly spozed to happen if the boat has been named after a lady then changed to something else. regular weird yotty names dont count unless thy are lady names.
my formosa was named dream comtru then changed to solitary bird..after the don juan de mateus writings, 5 points to solitary bird...
Solitary Bird has points of five
1) It keeps its beak to the sky
2) It has no definite colour
3) It flys to the highest point
4) It suffers for no company, not even that of its own kind
5) It knows no boundries

Yeah, like calling your significant other by a differnt name...try it on your wife some time and see how your luck goes...

A renaming ceremony is a great chance to drink rum in the name of celebrating your boat. You should modify the 48north ceremony to your particular desires and do one just to be safe!

But the leaks and broken things probably have more to do with the fact that you have a good old boat than grumpy spirits.
