Ron, I had much the same question last year. We went aft. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. If so, check out the May, 1999 issue of Sailing. Boat Name
Had the same problem on my H240. I removed the H240 decal that is located on the sides of the boat toward the stern and placed the name there.

Give 'em a chance to know who's pass'n 'em!
On our boat we applied the name on the stern as it is required to be there on a documented boat. We also put it on the boom so that folks could see it before we passed them! Looks nice too! Ron

Split'em on the stern
Another option is to use the stern. On the port side you could put the boats name, while using the starboard for the home port. You may need to play around some with lettering size and placement before coming up with the best solution. If sized and spaced approiately, it can look nice and professional.

Hydrotherapy
We put our boat name "Hydrotherapy" (very familiar huh) on both sides of the boat in the stern where the swizzel was origionally. We really did not have a choice because we have the a wheel steering box installed in the transom. Dave Oberholtzer Hydrotherapy

Hydro-Therapy / Hydrotherapy
Dave - Sorry to steal your boat name. Especially since we both have the same boat! Actually, my choice for the name is 100% original. It's a name I picked two years ago after taking my 16' Prindle catamaran for it's last sail, before selling it. I decided that when I got a bigger boat, Hydro-Therapy would be it's name. The way I figure it, time spent on the water sailing is more theraputic than time on any psychotherapist's couch! Have fun. Ron Mehringer H26 Hydro-Therapy

Port Side
I copied the pattern off of the port side transom took that to the sign making guy and he was able to print it at an angle. Came out way better than I though it would.

We put the name on the side where originally "HUNTER" was written. The URL below shows the placement. http://search.yachtworld.com/boats/display_photo.cgi?photo=1&boat_id=335578&page=&length=26&maker=Hunter+Marine&model=26&broker_url=tidewatermarina&desc=&listing_id=3824 I have not seen a name on the transom of an H26 ore 23.5 that I liked. The back of these boats is very cluttered with the rudder, railing, ladder and motor. My wife is very good at this kind of thing and she could not put together a good combination of name, font, shape, or angle that was pleasing. There's just not enough "white space." The boom idea isn't bad. Getting the lettering to stick might be a problem. Mark

We got rid of the squiggle
When we purchased our 26, we had the dealer delete the squiggle, then he left space on the side for the name and continued the red & blue stripes back to the stern. I'll send a picture to the photo forum. Mike Pajewski H26 "Loon"
