I just launched my 79 V25 and had a very intense naming ceremony with all harbor friends attending. A blast and all the gods of seas and winds appeased.

The Good news, previous owner never named her. No 'de-naming' required. Not so easy a task as many may know.

Big However! I misspelled her! Not to be known until 2 weeks later when sent out a picture to my brother.

OK so what would u do? Ya think the gods would give me a break if I pull the lettering and correct? Name has been logged and locked into the books for good luck and safe travels.

Odin Norse god ruler of the Skies sure not gonna like that I spelled his favored woman warriors names wrong. Boats named after the Valkyries. "Valkerie's Haven". Missing the Y. I am new to sailing, and i hope Odin don't over power sails and sink her!

I am bit nervous. Odin a forgiving gentle god? Heck he may blow gentle winds at my sails forever more! That would blow not..

My brothers first love was his 26 and this classic 25 his gift to me. A summer of work on her, and finally it has touched the gulf water. My first sail ever on my 55th birthday 2 weeks ago, after christening, and her keel sang. Old dog learning new tricks. Unfortunate my brother far away. By next spring, I look forward to the day he boards. Ya he said the spelling just makes it more unuiqe . hell I can't spell my name.. Jon

A fabulous birthday gift indeed. Happy Birthday Jon.
We went sailing for my birthday two weeks ago as well. My birthday was on October 7th though we didn't launch until the 9th but that was close enough for me.

"clint" might be a poor choice for a boat name

You're lucky. I have to de-name my boat twice....yep twice. When I bought her, she had "Goddess" on the starboard side, and "Jasmine Rose" on the port side.......
I asked the previous owner about that and he told me that he never got around to adding the "new" name to the boat.......
I'm lucky I made it from Colorado to Texas without mishap.

Oh well, it will be one heck of a de-naming and renaming party in the spring. :)

FYI--one thing cannot be "more unique" than another. That is, one thing cannot be more "one of a kind" than another thing that is "one of a kind." Nevertheless, of course, the valkyries were women (female, at least); the name referring to the task they performed--i.e., it's not a proper noun until you stick it on the boat. So the name should read: Valkyries' Haven. Otherwise, in the singular, probably: A Valkyrie's Haven or A Valkyr's Haven. Unless you're a woman it's a name the reference of which would not be evidcnt. But, I suppose, the same could be said of a boat named King's Gambit:biggrin:! Also, Odin does not appear to have been a sea god. So unless he's on good terms with Poseidon, not to worry.;)
