We had just purchased a 31 Hunter with the name of the boat that is permanently fixed to the boat, unless we use a belt sander to remove the name, which would lead to a lengthy process to refinish the surface . I would like to know if there is a procedure to replace the name with another by using a decal sign application which would seal over the existing name and beable to adhere to the stern of the boat. Any suggestions on the type of materials, adhesives and company names which have this type of applications.

paint?

Robert: If it is paint, you can use oven cleaner (like oven-off). You just spray it on and let it sit for 10-20 mins. and scrub it with a brush. You may need a couple of applications to get the majority of it off. Then you can clean it up with some rubbing compound. If it is a decal, you can use some of the decal remover that you should be able to find at an automotive paint store. There is also a device that goes on a electric or pneumatic drill. I used one of these on the cabin stripes it worked quit well. It is called an *eraser* and can also be found at an auto paint store.

Paint Removal

I had to remove the painted name from my h31 last year. I started with the oven cleaner but it turned the hull yellow. Finally settled on elbow grease and very very fine sand paper. Seems to me it was 800 - 1200 grit. Got it from the auto repair store. Worked great. Compound & waxed it looks like new.

Decals

I got mine from a company called McKenzie Oerting #904 388 3082. They did a great job for a reasonable price and the name/decal still looks great 4 years later. Good luck
