Which could be the fault of the marina??? for allowing this, not necessarily the boat owner.
I've read this topic and thought about for the past coupla days.
What the heck difference does it make? Unless you're comparing local, neighboring, close-by marinas for price, in which case you'll get Price X and Price Y `and Price Z anyway.
It is what it is.
Yeah, if a boat sticks out into the fairway in Long Beach, even a little bit, it gets
RED TAGGED; the owner has a few days to correct the problem. Otherwise, there is risk of losing the slip permit.
To your other point, there's a lot of variation in what is offered at the various marinas--particularly for the live aboards; i.e., the facilities ashore. Some have modern/new docks housing slips with two fingers (individual slip), "club houses", good laundry facilities, nice showers, workout rooms, tennis courts, ice-vending machines, filtered water dispensers, their own pump-out stations, ample parking [for guests], good security, free Wi-fi, & friendly full-time staff, etc. Others either don't or have minimal versions, e.g., double-wide slips on deteriorating wooden docks, poor security, mediocre laundries, old, grungy showers, no "club house", etc. Naturally, one could expect variable pricing strategies. Considering the few numbers of boaters compared to the population at large and the value of waterfront access, we're very lucky to have nice, well-maintanined marinas on beautiful water fronts at all. It's nice to see them being rebuilt in various places instead of being torn out and replaced by mooring fields. Go to Australia (Port Jackson area) or even Newport Bay, CA, and that's what you'll see. Very few dock marinas; vast mooring fields to keep your boat at!
