THe webinar thing is okay....but being able to put your hands onto the job and actually do it while being coached is priceless in many ways. In this way you know the feel of it. The cyber world is great, but nothing beats the real world and real world experience.

Thanks Joe. They were just getting into that when I retired. Called it teleconferencing.

What would you guys think about Webinars? I do a lot of them with the ABYC and they are great. I've have done quite a few of them with the likes of Ed Sherman, Steve D'antonio & David Rifkin among others. Well worth the price and these guys don't give them away.
Would the webinars be similiar to your videos??? Never done a webinar.
Your videos are great and I go to videos whenever I have a question. I'm guessing the advantage of a webinar is that I could post/ask a question and you could in real time respond/show on whatever you were working on. That seems like a great idea. As someone else mentioned putting your hands on something and feeling the torque necc. or the tightness of an electrical connection etc. is priceless. Guess a webinar would be the next best thing. At this point I'll take anything I can get to help me get the jobs done quickly, most cost efficiently, correctly, and safely.

Webinars are like an on-line video meeting / presentation. People dial in and also pull the presentation up on their computer and the host goes through it. We used them all the time in the Biotech industry for meetings. We used to use Cisco's WebEx but there are many others that I'm sure are less money. Skype even has a version. They are interactive and folks can press a button to raise their hand or type a question that the moderator or instructor can see. You get video, audio, text, links what ever you want to do depending on how you set it up..

one downside...

Having webinars makes it hard to go out for drinks as a group afterwards...!

They could be virtual drinks....Then again....If they were real drinks and you were at home, taking the class, and having a drink with the class over the computer would you really be drinking alone?

As a relative novice, I spent an entire four day weekend at Strictly Sail (Navy Pier in Chicago) one year. Attended every boat maintenance and handling seminar I could. Got quite a bit out of it, but there's nothing like hands-on experience.
The webinars are a good idea.
