Our 1989 33.5 Hunter lists to starboard and we would like to rectify this problem. The design is such that the head, holding tank, diesel tank, lazerette, galley...all are on the starboard side. Aside from bringing jugs of water and small chunks of lead aboard to place on the port side has anyone more elegant ideas of how to deal with this problem?

Batteries

Where are the batteries,I moved my 2 big heavy 4D's on my new H-36 from where the Gen was on the port side with the batteries and did move them to the starboard side to solve my problem.

Our 1900 Hunter 33.5 also has a "designed in" 3 deg. Starboard list. I have put the tool bag on the port side under the settee along with the backup mooring line (add it to mooring in case of expected blow), jugs of drinking water, Rum, Wine, and some pots & pans. This trims it back to about 2 deg. list. I have thought of getting some bags of lead shot and epoxying them in spots low on the port side, but have not done it. If you do that, you don't want them "flying" around when heeling. At least the fresh Water tank and batteries are on or close to center-line.

How timely because I just noticed my 88 H33.5 has about a 3 degree list too. I moved a bunch of stuff around below decks and that must have been offsetting the list. Once I cleared it out I noticed it and have been scratching my head trying to figure out why.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone. I also did a search on the 'listing issue' and came up with many, many older posts. The suggestions were all the same- add weight to the port side. I am in the market for some lead!

My boat also has a slight list to starboard side although the tanks and stuff seems pretty much evenly distributed. So the elegant way to right the list I think is to stack cartons and cartons of beer on the portside to level the boat. So when you start seeing the boat listing back to starboard side, you know its time to head back to berth. ;)

Lead

I could let you take the 300 lbs of lead that was added to my h-36 before I switched my 2-4D's to starboard side,it's laying on the ground in Calverton,NY

We corrected our slight list on our '93 Hunter 30T by realigning the mast. This was the suggestion from Hunter Helpline as I recall. Often a slight list is caused by the mast leaning to one side just a bit. Anyway, this is easy to try. Adjust the stays so the mast is moved ever so slightly to the side away from the list and see if that works. It did for us.

Cheers,

Numlock

Numlock has the right idea. First make sure your mast is in column. Also, instead of 'adding' addition dead weight move as much as possible from starboard to port. That will double the effect of any added weight because it not only adds weight to one side it removes it from the other and causes no increase in total displacement.
