My boat is listing a few degrees to starboard, no ballast issues or otherwise are evident....any ideas on why this occurs?

Many boats exhibit a listing to one side or the other due to interior design (typically towards the galley &/or heads). Systems and gear such as batteries and fuel/water tanks also can have a significant impact. The only feasible way to compensate is to try to stow heavier gear on the lighter side and use fuel/water from tanks on the heavier side first. Best, Trevor

To list or not to list
not sure how old the boat is that has the listing to one side problem. Has the boat had the problem all the while you have owned it? A friend's use to look like it was bow heavy when sitting in the water. It turned out the bottom paint and boot stripe were not level with the actual waterline giving the viewer an optical illusion effect.

Listing to port
I find my boat lists to port on a starboard tack, this is usually from the wind coming across the starboard side and pushing on the sails. What type of boat do you have Sailchick?

My boat lists to port where the galley, batteries,
water tank, propane tank and battery charger are located. Most pronounced when water tank full, so dinghy & motor, extra drinking water and the heaviest crewman store on the starboard side.

Aside from looking odd, the list has an effect on speed. Try this: Next time you fuel up, be sure the holding tank is empty. See if you don't sail faster on one tack vs. the other. Then wait a few weeks/months to see what happens when the fuel tank is half-empty and the holding tank is half-full. Should balance out the speed.
