I bought a Starwind 22 this Spring; it was delivered by seller and launch...I have it docked; I need to inspect the swing keel and do some bottom painting this Fall after our sailing season; I need some used jacks, the swing keel draft 6'; what type of jacks would I need (size); will the jacks go outside the trailer and drive the trailer away? Sould I leave the boat on the trailer and jacked up one end at a time??? I would appreicate and imput.. I love this boat and I'm going to make everything right as possible. Tom Colley

You meant to say poppits right?

Sorry, just couldn't resist. Everytime somebody says boat jacks, I try to let them know what the correct name is for those suckers.

suckers

Thanks for the info; I've been sailing dingies for several years; my first keel boat; never heard the term sucker, but I never had a bigger boat; I need some cheap suckers. Tom Colley

Haul it...

...properly on a boat lift and have it blocked in the yard. If you love it and want to do right by it, I wouldn't mess around trying to lift it off the trailer with "suckers" by myself. If you need to inspect and/or paint the keel, it needs to be fully lowered - that means the boat needs to be several feet higher than the trailer bunks, if I'm guessing right. Even if you can get the "suckers" where they need to be while the boat is on the trailer, there's no way you'll be able to drive the trailer out from under it - the "suckers" will be in the way.
