I'm hving trouble finding boat insurance at a reasonable rate. Our 30-foot, 1981 Hunter (King Louie) is docked behind a house on a canal in Coconut Grove, just about 200 yards off Biscayne Bay. Our current insurance is expiring in August and we have been notified that it will not be renewed. We were paying about $650.00 a year. I have contacted Boat US and several other marine insurance companies. Costs per year quoted were $1,800 a year! Some companies said they no longer insure boats in Dade County (Miami), no boats older than 20 years, boats not on a trailer and other exclusions. Does anyone know of any insurance available in the Miami area in the $1,000 range, or anything less than $1700-$1800/year? Thanks for any help. King Elliott

Location, location, location...

just like real estate, you are in a "hot spot". Lots of losses down there, not to mention exposure. Have you checked with your homeowner's insurance carrier? Helps to have home, car, and boat with same carrier in most instances. Good luck in my old hometown...

Big Companies

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, once again the little guy pays to help the big companies stay profitable.

Liability

You might consider liability-only and self insure. Not a solution that anybody wants to hear, I know. Things are only little better in Tampa Bay. Between insurance, and slip fees, and all the boat yards being shut down (valuable water-front property don't you know) there won't be any boating if Florida soon. All of these things are pusing me out of the state.
